After Covid - and weather - related delays, the engine and transmission were finally ready to be picked up. Unfortunately, the engine needed to be picked up while I was busy, so Josh at Rocky Mountain Caterham helped out and grabbed the crates for me.
After Josh dropped the crates off, I began to unbox them. When I opened up the engine, I saw that something was wrong. The engine was sitting down in the box (off the stands), and a bolt mount was sheared off. On the other side, the two bolts that held the engine to the mount had stripped out of the threads.
Josh came out the next day to help inspect. We determined that the sheared mount was only for shipping. But, the two bolts that stripped out were needed for the right-side engine mount. Luckily, only about 5mm of thread had stripped out of the holes (the bolts were only started).
Josh spoke with Caterham about the stripped bolt holes. The Caterham engineers recommended using 5mm longer bolts in the existing holes to ensure the same threading contact.
So I went to Tractor Supply and bought two Grade 12.9 M8 30mm bolts. After test fitting them, everything looked perfect.
