Suspension Tuning

Now that the car was up and running, I needed to set up the suspension.  At the moment, the wheels are in weird positions.

Because I had never done anything like this before, I took the car over to Thomas Vintage Motors and worked with Nathan on the setup.  Nathan worked for a number of years as an engineer at Caterham.

We started by adjusting the camber angle.  Before adjustment, the car had about 5 degrees of positive camber in the front which was not good.  We took this down to 1.25 degrees negative.  To adjust the camber you remove the joint on the upper wishbone from the wheel hub and twist it either in or out to change the angle.  The rear wheels did not have adjustable camber but were locked at 1.5 degrees negative.

Adjusting the car's toe was a little bit easier.  Using a string box setup we were able to turn the steering rack ends with a wrench and adjust the front wheels to 2 mm of toe in.
